5 Tips on How to Start Exercising for Beginners

Thinking about how to start exercising but you’ve never done it before? Don’t know where to even think about starting? We want to share some tips with you that should help. Look at these 5 tips on how to start exercising for beginners:

1. Make a Plan

Attend a class? Work out at home? Figuring out what your plan of action is will help you actually start exercising instead of just talking about it. Choosing where and how you are going to exercise puts you a step in the right direction. You should also decide what time of the day works best for you. Once you make your plan, stick to it!

2. Set Realistic Goals

Since you’re a beginner, you won’t be able to keep up with the fitness gurus you see on social media and at the gym. You have to set realistic goals for yourself, and keep in mind they are what’s best for you. Start with small goals, like walking 2 miles a day or doing so many reps with a comfortable weight. Once you reach these small goals, set moderate goals. Progress, even if it’s small, is still progress! Be proud of reaching those small goals when you’re first figuring out how to start exercising!

3. Stay Hydrated

Your body needs water to survive, and when you exercise and get hot, your body will use the water you drank to turn into sweat, naturally cooling yourself down. Plus, if you’re hydrated, your muscles are less likely to become injured. Staying hydrated also helps your body recover after working out. Drinking enough water throughout the day is important to overall health.

4. Do Warm Ups and Cool Downs

When you are first figuring out how to start exercising, you need to warm up before and cool down after a workout. By warming up before you begin working out, your body will be ready for moving, preventing injuries that can occur if you don’t warm up. Your body’s flexibility will improve and help with soreness. Once you have finished your workout, you should cool down. This brings your body back to a normal state, restoring blood circulation and reducing the risk of soreness.

5. Know Your Limits

Listen to your body to know when you should stop or take a break. Don’t try to put on a brave face and continue if you need to stop. It could result in injury or create a fizzle in your motivation. Keep in mind that everyone has their limits, and you should be aware of your body and know what yours are.
