Meet Gary Runyon, this week’s employee spotlight! Gary is a hard-working pharmacist, and a great addition to the Mac’s LTC team! Accumulating over 15 years of pharmacy experience, from clinical to community, he began his career in Nashville, Tennessee as a technician in 2003. After just a few weeks as a technician, Gary knew that he wanted to become a pharmacist.
“Practicing pharmacy allows me to combine two of my greatest passions: exploring the sciences, and helping people.”
The following year, Gary was accepted at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy and graduated in 2008. Gary holds a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in biology and minor in chemistry, from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis, Tennessee. Directly out of school, Gary accepted a management position, and it wasn’t long before his expertise and talent was recognized by his employer.
Gary assumed several leadership roles, such as District Quality-Assurance lead, District Medication Therapy Management Lead, and District Health Testing Trainer. He served the public and private sector making appearances at the Knoxville Healthy Living Expo, the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy teaching guest lectures, and Bush Brothers Company serving as a consultant pharmacist for over 7 years.
Gary brings high energy, positivity, and a fun-loving spirit to his practice, and he uses this vibrant spirit to connect and inspire others. With a strong track record of developing and maintaining professional relationships across multiple disciplines, he is well-known in and around the Knoxville-area for his work ethic and friendly demeanor.
Outside of the pharmacy, Gary is an avid athlete, world traveler, and yoga instructor. You may find him running the trails, visiting a food and wine tasting, or even catch him out in the community teaching a rooftop yoga class.
