Employee Spotlight: Faith Williams at City Drug

Employee Spotlight: Faith Williams

If you’ve ever met Faith Williams, you know she has a big heart, a deep love for helping others, and a resilience that’s hard to put into words. Faith has been part of the Mac’s Pharmacy family for four years, but her journey into pharmacy began long before she ever put on a name badge.

From the very beginning, she’s faced health challenges with courage and determination. She spent time working in childcare at Head Start, but her own health made it difficult to keep up with the demands of the job. That’s when a friend told her about an opportunity in pharmacy — a career change that turned out to be the perfect fit.

Tell us about your history with Mac’s Pharmacy.
I started in December 2021 at Lowe’s Drugs as a clerk and moved to City Drug during the merger. I’m now working as a pharmacy tech and studying to earn my Pharmacy Technician Certification. I love learning new things and expanding what I can do to help our patients.

Tell us about your family and life outside of work.
My husband works as a Teaching Assistant, and my mom is the Director of the Humane Society of East Tennessee. That means a lot of my free time is spent helping with animal rescues, giving medications to pets, or pitching in at adoption events. We have a dog, a cat, and I used to have a very special pet duck named O’Malley — yes, named after the Grey’s Anatomy character! I bought him for one dollar at Rural King because they said he wouldn’t make it through the night. I wasn’t about to let that happen — I nursed him back to health, and he lived for almost three years.

You’ve shared that you have Type 1 diabetes. How has that shaped your work in pharmacy?
I was diagnosed at just 18 months old, so it’s all I’ve ever known. Type 1 diabetes is considered a terminal diagnosis — people hear that and panic, thinking their life is over. I get it, because I’ve been there. But I also know it’s absolutely manageable. That’s why I take extra time with patients who are newly diagnosed. Whether it’s showing them how to use a Dexcom or OmniPod, or just encouraging them through those first overwhelming weeks, I want them to know they’re not alone.

If you could recommend one product to everyone, what would it be?
Definitely the GNP Glucose Meter. When my Dexcom acts up, it’s a lifesaver. It’s so important to know your numbers — that’s your lifeline when you’re managing diabetes.
